HAND is an organization that is designed to help autistic families afford biomedical treatments that are not covered by insurance. The incidence of autism has recently dramatically increased from 1 in 150 births per year to a revised 1 in 91 births, as of fall 2009. A child is diagnosed every twenty minutes. This rate is higher than cerebral palsy, childhood cancer, cystic fibrosis and juvenile diabetes combined!
Autism is a neurologocal disorder that affects how children perceive the world around them and how they respond to others. Often, it impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. Though science has no cure for autism, there are many ways in which science has made autism treatable. These children are often referred to as recovered. Our goal is to help fund these recoveries.
By making a donation on our behalf, you are supporting and helping autistic families that need help with biomedical treatments. We know autistism is treatable. The problem is that these treatments are very expensive and aren't covered by insurance. Please help us heal their children.
